Feb. 7-14 marks the annual celebration of National Marriage Week USA. World Marriage Day is celebrated each year on the second Sunday of February, this year on Feb. 11. This celebration provides an opportunity to shine a light on the joy of the sacrament of matrimony, to help couples strengthen their marriages and build a culture of life and love.
Marriage is a lifelong full partnership of mutual and exclusive fidelity that is established by mutual consent between a man and a woman, ordered toward the good of the spouses and for the procreation of offspring. Therefore, we realize its goodness for the whole of society.
Pope Francis reminds us that where there is love, there is God. “The image of God is the married couple: the man and the woman; not only the man, not only the woman, but both of them together. This is the image of God: love, God’s covenant with us is represented in that covenant between man and woman. And it is very beautiful,” he said.
Let us take time during National Marriage Week and World Marriage Day to reflect on the importance of married life, to pray for more married vocations and to pray for married couples that their marital covenant may always remain strong and their lives be blessed with deep love and happiness.
