Bishop Nelson Perez offers message as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day approaches

“Throughout its history, our country has recognized those who by their bravery and leadership are regarded as champions for positive societal change. As we remember the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we take time to reflect on his message of peace and non-violence, racial equality and justice for all. His life and his legacy remain for us an inspiration that guides us to continually work toward building bridges, fostering positive relationships and forging pathways to peace.

While there has been significant progress over the years, clearly more work lies before all of us to ensure our community is one that strives for justice and helps advance the recognition of the dignity and equality of every person.

As Dr. King was a champion for human dignity, may we use his day as an opportunity to prayerfully reflect and actively engage in our own personal progress, walking together in solidarity and upholding the dignity of all people by the way we care for each other.

May we always remember the courage and sacrifice of Dr. King, sharing his dream that together we can build in Northeast Ohio a community of unity, peace and hope rooted in a deep respect for all.”
