The Reverend Mr. James J. Duffy

died, Thursday, 27 December 2007 at Heartland of Mentor after having received the prayerful support and consolation of the Sacraments. Reverend Mr. Duffy had Parkinson’s disease.


James J. Duffy was born on 11 June 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio. Jim graduated from John Adams High School in 1947. Jim held several positions throughout the years in the transportation industry, including positions at Nickel Plate Railroad, Motor Express and Mentor Post Office, from which he retired in 1990. Jim married Mary Anne Gallucci on 30 September 1950 at Epiphany Church in Cleveland, Ohio. Their marriage brought them two daughters: Maureen and Susan.


Jim was ordained to the diaconate on 6 June 1981 in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Cleveland, Ohio, by the Most Reverend Anthony M. Pilla. Following his ordination, he was assigned to St. John Vianney Parish in Mentor, Ohio. At the parish he exercised a full liturgical ministry including preaching, baptizing and witnessing marriages until his retirement as a deacon in 1997.
