The ministry of deacon is found in the New Testament (Acts 6:1-6 and 1 Timothy 3, 8-13).  Today, the order of deacon has been re-established by the Church. The diaconate is an authentic form of ministry in itself, distinct from but related to the Holy Orders of priesthood and episcopacy. The deacon assists the bishop in a special way by discovering needs of charity and by responding to those needs.  The deacon is a sign of the Church serving the world.
