The Reverend Mr. Robert L. Weniger

Permanent Deacon, Saint Barbara Parish, Cleveland

 

died, Thursday, 28 February 2008 at Bedford Hospital, after having received the prayerful support and consolation of the Sacraments. Reverend Mr. Weniger had complications from diabetes.


Robert L. Weniger was born on 3 September 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio. Bob graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Cleveland in 1958. Bob retired as a police sergeant after working for the Village of Valley View for twenty-nine years.


Bob married Cynthia Fields on 23 September 1961 at Saint Catherine Church in Cleveland. Their marriage brought them two children: Robert Christopher and Heather Marian and two grandchildren.


Bob was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate on 19 May 1990 in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Cleveland, Ohio by the Most Reverend Anthony M. Pilla. Following his ordination, he was assigned to Saint Michael Parish in Independence, Ohio. In 2006 Bob was transferred from his assignment at Saint Michael Parish to Saint Barbara Parish in Cleveland. Bob exercised a full liturgical ministry including preaching, baptizing, and witnessing marriages.


Bob was instrumental in building a Mission Church in Cartagena, Columbia. The church was funded by parishioners of St. Michael Parish and the diocesan Propagation of the Faith. Bob made many trips to Columbia in support of the Mission Church.
