Description:  All students begin the academic year, meeting on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings.

Description:  The formal rite whereby the Bishop formally accepts the petitions of the Candidates to pursue formation and ordination. The second-year candidates commit at this time to the provisions of ministry as ordained deacons.  A reception usually follows.

Candidates/Wives Retreat

Location:  St. Joseph Christian Life Center        

Description:  This retreat weekend affords the candidates and their wives opportunities for spiritual reflection and guided activities with their classmates.

Diaconate Retreat

Date:  October 2008

Location:  Embassy Suites in Beachwood, Ohio

Description:  The retreat is conducted for ordained deacons and their wives. The retreat will be held at the Embassy Suites in Beachwood.  We encourage all the members of our diaconate community to attend this annual event.

Day of Recollection for Deacons

Description:  This is a day long retreat for the deacons and is usually well attended. The day is organized but permits opportunities to contemplate, pray, and reflect in a serene setting.

Christmas Party

Date:  2008

Time:  2:00 - 4:00 P.M.

Location:  Center for Pastoral Leadership

Description:  Held at the Center for Pastoral Leadership, this social event includes a prayer service, social, and visit by the jolly old elf himself.  This is always a fun afternoon. All members of our diaconate community and their families are invited to attend. Gifts are brought which are shared with the poor. 

Day of Recollection for Formation Candidates

Location:  Center for Pastoral Leadership

 

Description:  This is a day of reflection for the men who are candidates in our diaconate formation program.  The day will provide them an opportunity to gather in prayer in assisting them with their discernment for the sacrament of Holy Orders.

Installation to Acolyte

Date 2009

Time:  5:00 PM

Location:  Holy Family Parish, Stow, Ohio

Description:  The formal rite prior to ordination whereby the Bishop installs the 3rd-Year Candidates as Acolytes. The candidates are reminded of their ministry of service to the Eucharist and Charity. They are presented the pix as a sign of their mission to serve the Eucharist and those in need. This rite is part of the Mass and location will be announced.

Chrism Mass

Date:  2009

Location:  St. John Cathedral

Description:  The formal rite of blessing all the sacred oils to be used in the churches that comprise the Diocese.  Oils are distributed after Mass concludes.

Ordination Retreat

Description:  This retreat allows the 4th year candidates an opportunity for spiritual reflection just prior to their ordination as Permanent Deacons for the Diocese of Cleveland.

Wives Evening of Sharing and Caring

Description:  This us an evening gathering open to the entire Diaconate community of women and is usually well attended. The day is organized but permits opportunities to contemplate, pray, and reflect in a serene setting.

Diaconate Convocation

Description:  Meeting of Bishop Lennon with the Order of Deacons for meaningful dialog.

Diaconate Ordination

Date:  2009

Location:  St. John Cathedral

Description:  In this solemn rite, the 4th-Year candidates are ordained as Deacons for service to the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Cleveland. Their wives and families are recognized for their sacrifice to the Church. The men are reminded of their call to service to the Liturgy, the Word, and Charity. They pledge their lives to the service of Christ and His Church and the Bishop sends them forth armed with the grace and power of God.

Priest Ordination

Location:  St. John Cathedral

Description:  The Bishop ordains those who have completed the requirements for priesthood. The men commit their lives to God in service to Christ and His Church through their special ministry of priest. The special graces of ordination bless the men as they embark on their journey to serve our God.

Installation to Lector

Description:  The formal rite prior to ordination whereby the Bishop installs the 2nd-Year Candidates as lectors for the universal Catholic Church. The candidates are reminded of their ministry to the Word of God. Bibles are blessed and presented to the candidates as a sign of their mission to serve the Word.  A reception usually follows.

Widows/Widowers Luncheon and Reflection

Date: 2009

Location:  Center for Pastoral Leadershsip 

Description:  This is an annual event held at the Center for Pastoral Leadership. This provides an opportunity for the widows and widowers of our community to gather in prayer together and spend some time together to reflect on their lives as members of our diaconate community.

Wives Picnic

Date: 2009

Location: Center for Pastoral Leadership

Description:  This social event is organized by the Wives Core Group to foster fellowship and provide support to the families of candidates.

Diaconate Golf Outing

Date: 2009

Location:  St. Denis GC 

Description:  This annual tournament for the Diaconate community is open to both men and women. It is a fun outing; a chance to socialize, play, and eat in community with those of our community.  Cost includes 18 holes of golf, cart, light lunch, cocktails, and full dinner.  Usually includes raffle and any proceeds in excess of the cost of the tournament are donated to the needy.
