The Reverend Mr. Geza Balint
Permanent Deacon, Our Lady of Peace Parish, Cleveland

died Wednesday, December 29, 1993 at the Cleveland Clinic after having received the prayerful support and consolation of the Sacraments. Reverend Mr. Balint had been ill with leukemia for the past several months.

Deacon Balint was born on September 14, 1936 in Szekesfehervar. Hungary to Stefan and Ethel Balint, the fourth of eight children. He was educated at St. Veit an der Glan, Austria. His family came to the United States in 1952. He served in the United States Army. From 1963 to 1974, he worked in his own business as a cabinet maker. In 1976 he became a self-employed violin bow maker. He became a United States citizen in 1985.

He married Christa Dolenz on December 2, 1962. He met Christa while serving in the military in Germany. Christa was born in Austria. They moved to the United States in 1963. When Deacon Balint entered the diaconate program in 1985, he received the enthusiastic support from his wife. Christa, and their six children: Dorothea, Geza, Peter, Heidi, Jennifer, and Stephanie. The love and loyalty of Christa and his family has helped him with the many demands of his studies, his work, and his ministry.

He was ordained to the diaconate on May 21, 1988 in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Cleveland, Ohio by the Most Reverend Anthony M. Pilla. Following his ordination he was assigned as pastoral minister at St. Margaret of Hungary Parish, Cleveland, Ohio. He continued to minister at St. Margaret Parish until July of 1991 when he was assigned as pastoral minister at Our Lady of Peace Parish, Cleveland, Ohio. He continued to minister at Our Lady of Peace Parish until his illness several months ago. In addition, since his ordination. Deacon Balint also assisted St. Elizabeth Parish and the Hungarian community in the Buckeye Road area.
