The Reverend Mr. Mario J. Vinciguerra

Permanent Deacon, Diocese of Cleveland

 

died, Friday, March 5, 2004 at the Cleveland clinic after having received the prayerful support and consolation of the Sacraments. Reverend Mr. Vinciguerra had pancreatic cancer.

Mario J. Vinciguerra was born on August 3, 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio, to Joseph and Nancy Vinciguerra. Mario graduated from John Adams High School in Cleveland in 1954. He owned and operated a retail music store from 1967 until 1988, selling and repairing musical instruments and teaching music. He was employed at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish as Maintenance Supervisor and later, after his ordination to the diaconate, he was employed at the parish as pastoral associate.


Mario married Jeri Bellina on August 17, 1957. Their marriage brought them two children: Nancy (Fantozzi) and Celeste (Hein) as well as six grandchildren.

Mario was ordained to the diaconate on May 18, 1996 in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, by the Most Reverend Anthony M. Pilla.  Following his ordination, he was assigned to Our  Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Macedonia.  He enjoyed a full liturgical ministry at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, which included preaching, baptizing, and witnessing marriages.  In addition, he ministered to the parishioners with hospital and homebound visitations and adult education.  Mario ministered at Our Lady of Guadalupe until his death.
