The Joy of the Gospel in America
This July, the US Conference of Catholic Bishops held The Convocation of Catholic Leaders: The Joy of the Gospel in America. The convocation took place from Saturday July 1st to Tuesday July 4th and a delegation from the Diocese of Cleveland was present along with our yet to be named at that time Bishop Nelson Perez.
This convocation gathered key leaders from dioceses and Catholic organizations across the United States to look at the Church in the United States and evaluate the challenges and opportunities presented today. The historic gathering carefully studied forming missionary disciples to animate the Church and engage the culture. Through looking at Pope Francis’ apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium, The Joy of the Gospel, participants learned how to implement evangelization into their dioceses and daily lives.
Many beautiful witness stories and inspiring talks with practical tips on how to live out missionary discipleship were shared. Below are links that direct to the witnesses, prayer times, and keynote addresses during the convocation. Some of the speakers include, Timothy Cardinal Dolan, Sister Miriam James Heidland SOLT, Donald Cardinal Wuerl, Dr. Ansel Augustine, Lucia Baez Luzondo, Bishop Robert Barron, and more. Feel free to explore the materials presented during the convocation to learn how to implement the ideas of missionary discipleship in your daily life.
Living as Missionary Disciples — New Resource from the USCCB
Please pray for the continued outreach from the Convocation:
O Holy Spirit, you who first enkindled in our hearts the joy of the Gospel, renew that same joy in all who are living as missionary disciples.
Enflame the hearts of our bishops and their diocesan delegations; leaders of national organizations and movements; clergy, religious and laity; all Catholic leaders across the United States.
Move us to welcome the word of life in the depths of our hearts and respond to the call of missionary discipleship.
O Holy Spirit, transform our hearts and enable us to enter into the perfect communion that you share with the Father and the Son.*
Mary, Star of the New Evangelization, pray for us.
