Almost 400 people gathered together under a massive tent on the grounds of the Jesuit Retreat House in Parma on May 11 to celebrate its annual Hearts on Fire fundraiser and to honor the recipients of the Ignatian Spirituality Award.
Rick Krivanka, JRH executive director, welcomed guests that included members of the local Jesuit community as well as donors and supporters of the local institution, which is now in its 120th year.
Four people were honored with the Ignatian Spiritual Award, which recognizes a person who has embraced the graces of the Spiritual Exercises and integrated Ignatian spirituality into their life.
This year’s honorees were:
- Father Casey Bukala, SJ, retired faculty, John Carroll University
- Martha Campbell, founding director of the Jesuit Retreat House Lay Leadership Program
- Brian Dean, president of the Retirement Consulting and Asset Management Division of CBIZ
- Bob Hager, managing partner at Brennan, Manna & Diamond, L.L.C.
Video tributes of those honored were shown during throughout the evening which helped to highlight the recipients’ life witness.
A fund-a-need call for support raised thousands of dollars for much-needed commercial laundry equipment for the retreat house.
Founded in 1898, the Jesuit Retreat House stands as a place of reflection and peace on State Road in Parma. It provides a sacred setting for outreach, retreats and programs of growth and development in the contemporary Church and society.
