Franciscan Friar, Brother Pat Shea, O.F.M. died this past Friday morning, Sept. 29 at the age of 69 in Springfield, Illinois.
Brother Pat had a long established relationship with the Diocese of Cleveland, most recently, serving as General Counsel from June of 2004 to his retirement on Jan. 1, 2015. Prior to his tenure as general counsel, Brother Pat first began working on legal matters for Catholic Charities and the Commission for Catholic Community Action in 1980. He was on the original staff of the diocesan legal office when it was created in April, 1984 and also assisted the chancery in canonical matters through 1993. He returned to his home Diocese of Springfield, Illinois in 1994 where he served as legal counsel and assistant to the vicar general, defender of the bond; before returning to Cleveland in 2004.
Brother Pat’s wake and funeral will take place at the motherhouse of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis in Springfield, Illinois. Visitation and viewing will take place on Friday, Oct. 6 from 6:30 – 7 p.m. with a wake service beginning at 7 p.m. in the family parlor near the adoration chapel.
The Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m. with a time of visitation and viewing prior to the Mass. Burial will take place sometime next week.
