The wake for Deacon Billy J. Malcolm will begin with vespers at 3 p.m. Oct. 1 in St. Ignatius of Antioch Church, 10205 Lorain Ave., Cleveland. Father Daniel F. Schlegel will be the presider and homilist. The wake will continue until 7 p.m.
Bishop Martin J. Amos will be the main celebrant at the funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 2 in St. Ignatius of Antioch Church, with Father John E. Manning as the homilist.
Deacon Malcolm, 75, died on Sept. 24.
He was born on March 7, 1943. Deacon Malcolm was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Mary (nee Porinchok). Survivors include his children and grandchildren.
Bishop Anthony M. Pilla ordained him to the permanent diaconate for service to the Diocese of Cleveland on May 20, 1989 in the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist.
Deacon Malcolm was assigned to serve St. Ignatius of Antioch Parish, Cleveland. In addition, on April 15, 1997 he was assigned to serve St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Cleveland.
He was granted retirement status on May 1, 2008.
Deacon Malcolm was kind, generous and faithful to his diaconal ministry especially his service to the sick and suffering. He spent countless number of hours visiting the sick in hospitals and comforting the dying.
Interment will be at Rittman Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio.
