Bishop Nelson Perez will be the main celebrant and Father Rob Reidy will be homilist at the Jan. 13 funeral Mass at St. Thomas More Church, for Father John S. Juhas, senior priest-retired.
The wake will begin with vespers at 3 p.m. Jan. 12 at St. Thomas More, 4170 Amber Drive, Brooklyn, and will continue until 8 p.m. Auxiliary Bishop emeritus Roger Gries will preside at vespers and Father Clyde Foster will be the homilist.
Father Juhas, 78, died on New Year’s Day.
A Cleveland native, Father Juhas was educated at Our Lady of Mercy School, Benedictine High School and Fenn College, all in Cleveland; Northern Michigan University, Borromeo Seminary College in Wickliffe and St. Mary Seminary, Cleveland.
Bishop James A. Hickey ordained him to the priesthood for the service of the Diocese of Cleveland on June 14, 1975.
Father Juhas’ first assignment was as parochial vicar of St. Justin Martyr Parish, Eastlake. On Oct. 5, 1976, he was transferred to Borromeo College to serve on the faculty. He also was assigned as parochial vicar of St. Gregory the Great, South Euclid, on Sept. 1, 1977. He continued to work with high school seminarians during that assignment.
On Sept. 1, 1981, he was appointed pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Cleveland’s Collinwood neighborhood. During that assignment, Father Juhas also served as chaplain for the Knights of Columbus Council 2786.
He was transferred on Sept. 5, 1989 to St. Paul Parish in Cleveland to serve as parochial vicar. On June 21, 1994, Father Juhas was assigned as parochial vicar of St. Thomas More. He was assigned as parochial vicar of St. Felicitas Parish in Euclid on June 5, 2007. Father Juhas retired on June 30, 2009.
Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Cleveland.
