Kenneth Joseph Wolnowski was born on 7 November 1938. His parents were the late Casimir Joseph and Harriett E. (Matuszewski). He was educated at SS. Peter & Paul, Garfield Hts., Borromeo Seminary College, Wickliffe, The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC, and St. Mary Seminary, Cleveland. On 22 May 1965 in the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist, Bishop Clarence G. Issenmann ordained him to the priesthood for the service of the Diocese of Cleveland.
Fr. Wolnowski’s first assignment was as Parochial Vicar of St. Joseph, Avon Lake. In addition to this assignment he also served as a part-time religious instructor at Lorain Catholic High School effective 13 August 1969. On 8 February 1971 he was transferred to St. Mary, Elyria to serve as Parochial Vicar. In addition to this assignment on 22 June 1972 Fr. Wolnowski was appointed Director of the Department of Religious Education at Elyria Catholic High School. He was appointed Director of the Diocesan Clergy Personnel Board on 27 June 1974 with residence at St. Joseph Christian Life Center. On 1 July 1976 Fr. Wolnowski was appointed Pastor of St. Josaphat, Cleveland. In addition Fr. Wolnowski served as an Associate Consultor (1980-1983). In addition to his pastoral assignment he was appointed Secretary for Parish Life & Development on 1 August 1980. On 16 April 1982 he was assigned interim Director of St. Joseph Christian Life Center in addition to pastoral and secretariat assignments. He was appointed Pastor of St. Peter, Lorain on 30 September 1986. During this assignment he also served as a Member ‘at large’ of the Presbyteral Council (2005-2010) and a Member of the College of Consultors (2005). Fr. Wolnowski retired on 28 June 2009. He also participated in the Apostleship of the Sea (2011-2012).
Vespers will be celebrated by Bishop Roger Gries on Monday, 8 June in St. Peter Church, 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, OH, 44053 at 3:00 p.m. Fr. Robert Glepko will be the homilist. The wake will continue until 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, 9 June in St. Peter Church at 11:00 a.m. Bishop Roger Gries will be the main celebrant and Fr. Frank Kosem will be the homilist. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery, East 71st Street, Cuyahoga Hts., Ohio.
In accord with the provisions of the Marian Pact, please try to attend and concelebrate the Funeral Liturgy, offer Mass for him as you are able and cause him to be remembered and prayed for in the appropriate public prayers of the Church. May Fr. Wolnowski and all our bishops, priests and deacons who have died, live forever in the joy of the Resurrection.
