In Remembrance – Reverend Robert Labella

The Reverend Robert Labella, Retired Senior Priest, died Sunday, 11 August 2013, after having received the prayerful support and consolation of the Sacraments. 


Robert Labella was born on 1 November 1927. His parents were the late Joseph and Teresa (Campagnoni). He was educated at Anthony Wayne Elementary School, Audubon Jr. High School, East Technical High School, John Carroll University, Sacred Heart Seminary, Detroit and Saint Mary Seminary, Cleveland. On 18 December 1954 in the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist, Archbishop Edward F. Hoban ordained him to the priesthood for the service of the Diocese of Cleveland.

 

Father Labella’s first assignment was as Parochial Vicar at Holy Rosary, Cleveland. He was transferred on 7 June 1956 to Saint Peter, Lorain to serve as Parochial Vicar. On 21 June 1960 Father Labella was appointed to serve as a full-time professor at Borromeo Seminary. During this assignment he was appointed Spiritual Director of Borromeo Seminary High School. On 23 July 1976 he was appointed Pastor at Saint Margaret Mary, South Euclid. Father Labella was transferred on 27 November 1978 and appointed Co-Chaplain at Saint Vincent Charity Hospital, Cleveland. During this appointment he was appointed Director of Pastoral Care at Saint Vincent Charity Hospital and Health Center effective 30 June 1982. On 1 March 1992 he was appointed Parochial Vicar at Saint Anthony of Padua, Akron where he remained until his retirement on 15 November 2009.

 

The wake will begin with Vespers celebrated by Bishop Roger Gries on Thursday, 15 August in Fioritto Funeral Home, 5236 Mayfield Road, Lyndhurst (east of Richmond Road) at 3:00 p.m. and will continue until 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, 16 August in Saint Clare Church, 5659 Mayfield Road, Lyndhurst at 10:00 a.m. Bishop Richard Lennon will be the main celebrant and Bishop A. Edward Pevec will be the homilist. Interment is at All Souls Cemetery, Chardon.

 

In accord with the provisions of the Marian Pact, please try to attend and concelebrate the Funeral Liturgy, offer Mass for him as you are able and cause him to be remembered and prayed for in the appropriate public prayers of the Church. May Father Labella and all our priests, deacons and bishops who have died, live forever in the joy of the Resurrection.
