History

bp lykeThe Diocesan Office of Ministry to African American Catholics was founded in 1974. The board and its parent office were developed under the leadership of Bishop James Hickey and a group of pastors serving the African American Catholic population in tandem with local parish leadership. First under the direction of Father Braxton and then Auxiliary Bishop James Patterson Lyke, a formal process was developed that gave birth to the Diocesan Black Catholic Advisory Board as a recognized and legitimate consultative board of the Diocese of Cleveland.

The current Director of the office is Vanessa Griffin Campbell.
