What Does Evangelization Look Like?

Evangelization is not a program. It is a way of life. It is

  • Christ-centered (putting on the mind of Christ, as St. Paul says)
  • Inclusive - the Good News is for everyone
  • Invitational (no manipulation or force)
  • Conversion-based - initial transformation and continued growth
  • Individual and communal
  • Public, involving society at large - social values, human rights, justice, dignity of every persons, peace-making, etc.
  • A process of dialogue and encounter - call and response; (Emmaus journey) conversion is a lifelong journey.

While evangelization is not a program, we can develop strategies to help us in being proactive about it. Know your parish - its strengths and challenges. Know you needs and those of the wider community. Be realistic about expectations and goals. Know your resources: human, financial and material. Affirm and encourage evangelization efforts already taking place. Build on the strengths you have in your parish.

Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations...

Mt. 28:19
