Welcoming in a Time of Transition!

Every parish in the diocese is being called to be a welcoming community! Recently each parish received a copy of a new manual entitled, The Parish Welcoming Manual, designed to help staff and parishioners during this very important time of transition. In the next several months, those who worked on the development of this manual are offering workshops which we hope will prove valuable to all of our parishes: Welcoming in a Time of Transition!

The first of these free workshops was offered on 1 August 2009 at St. Basil the Great Parish in Brecksville. The session began at 9:00 AM (with refreshments at 8:30 AM) and concluded at 12:30 PM. This workshop will be repeated on 10 October 2009 at the Center for Pastoral Leadership in Wickliffe; and 9 January 2010 at St. Vincent De Paul Parish in Cleveland. See the attached brochure for details.

Double Bind: Addictions in the Prison PopulationPrison Ministry Workshop, Saturday, 17 October 2009 at the Center for Pastoral Leadership, Wickliffe

“Far too many people are in prison primarily because of addiction. Locking up addicts without proper treatment and then returning them to the streets perpetuates a cycle of behavior that benefits neither the offender nor society. Persons suffering from chemical dependency should have access to the treatment that could free them and their families from the slavery of addiction, and free the rest of us from the crimes they commit to support this addiction.”

Responsibility, Rehabilitation, and Restoration: a Catholic Perspective on Crime and Criminal Justice.

A Statement of the Catholic Bishops of the United States

Mark your calendars for the annual workshop for prison ministry volunteers sponsored by the Diocesan Ministry to the Incarcerated. The workshop will be held on Saturday,17 October 2009, from 10:00am to 5:00pm at the Center for Pastoral Leadership in Wickliffe. This year’s workshop will focus on helping volunteers better understand addictions in the prison population. For more details, click here for the brochure.
