Bishop Nelson Perez traveled to Ashland on May 1 to celebrate Mass and visit with students, faculty, staff and parishioners at St. Edward Parish. Ashland County parish is one of the furthest south in the eight-county Diocese of Cleveland.
Principal Sue Valentine said everyone was excited that the bishop visited. “We really appreciate him coming down,” she said.
After Mass, he greeted parishioners and students as they left the church, posed for dozens of photos, toured the school, ate lunch with some students and chatted with them. It gave students, teachers and staff a chance to meet and talk to him individually.
Father Rod Kreidler, St. Edward pastor, said he also was pleased that the bishop took time to visit his parish and school. “It’s important to remind ourselves that we are part of the greater Church,” he said.
