Leadership of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops recently requested an audience with Pope Francis to discuss the moral crisis in the American Catholic Church. The pope met on Sept. 13 in Rome with Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, USCCB president; Cardinal Sean O’Malley of Boston, president of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Children and Minors; and Archbishop Jose Gomez of Los Angeles, USCCB vice president. Msgr. Brian Bransfield, USCCB general secretary, also participated.
