BOOK OF THE ELECT
The parish Book of the Elect is to be signed by the catechumens at the parish during either the celebration of the Sending of the Catechumens to Election (RCIA 106-117) or Sending Catechumens for Election and Candidates for Recognition by the Bishop (RCIA 550-561).
Each parish is to assign a book bearer to present the Book of the Elect to Bishop Lennon during the Procession of Catechumen. Directions for the book bearer are found on the video below (alternately at this link.
The Team RCIA website (www.teamrcia.com) calls the Book of the Elect “a book that serves as both a record of those elected each year and a symbol of God’s chosen people”. Thus, the Book of the Elect should be truly suitable for this purpose, beautiful, sturdily bound and capable of use from year to year.
If your parish does not own a Book of the Elect you may wish to consider purchasing one. The Liturgical Press sells theirs for $49.95 (www.litpress.org) and Catholic Book Publishing (www.catholicbookpublishing.com) sells theirs for $34. Other publishers may also carry this product.
There are 100 parking spaces available on the surface lot of the Cathedral and 500 in the Cathedral Square Parking Garage. Some street parking is available on Rockwell and East 12th. Carpooling is encouraged.
Paid parking may be available at the Hyatt Hotel (420 Superior Ave), one block west of the Cathedral, or at the Reserve Square Garage (corner of Chester Ave & East 13th St).
