African Presence in Scripture

This seminar provides a comprehensive overview, awareness, and understanding of the biblical historical perspectives that authenticate African Presence in Scripture. The instructor, Fr. Charles Smith, a member of the Society of the Divine Word, has been co-director of the Bowman Francis Ministry of Indianapolis for more than twenty years. The ministry provides religious education and evangelization projects to the African American Catholic community and non-practicing Catholics.

Registration is requested (available below).

About our instructor:
Father Smith is consumed by matters of social justice and peace. As a member of the Society of the Divine Word, an international religious order of priest and brothers, he spends much of his life trying to end the madness and evils of human right abuses around the world. He passionately spreads the word of God through rites of passage, revivals, workshops, school rallies, lectures, counseling, programming, and his specialized ministries of jail and hospital chaplaincy.

Fr. Smith is Co-Director of the Bowman Francis Ministry, a ministry that provides religious education and evangelization projects to the African American Catholic community and nonpracticing Catholics.

Fr. Smith is also co-founder and director of Ambassadors of the Word Ministries, an African American Youth Program that educates and nurtures youth in learning and exchanging their knowledge, culture, faith, and skills with other youth; in particular, poor youth of our global community.

Fr. Charles’ heady tasks is to ensure that advocates and lay people in the Catholic Church get the educational, spiritual, technical support they need in building up God's kingdom and their human rights as a people of human dignity who are created in the image and likeness of God.

Fr. Smith has been a federal prison chaplain in the U.S. government. He was and is a strong FBI agent (Firm Believer in Christ). He has numerous awards in civic, religious, social justice, and education work. At present, Fr. Smith works full time as a chaplain at the VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana and the District Superior of the Midwest region for the Society of the Divine Word Missionaries.
