In celebration of the 150th anniversary of Blessed Pope Pius IX’s declaration of St. Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church, Pope Francis has proclaimed a special “Year of St. Joseph.” It is a wonderful opportunity to increase our love for St. Joseph and knowledge, “to encourage us to implore his intercession and to imitate his virtues and his zeal" (Patris Corde).
In honor of the 150th anniversary of the proclamation of Saint Joseph as the patron of the Universal Church, Pope Francis wrote an Apostolic Letter, With a Father's Heart (Patris Corde) where he shares his personal reflections on St. Joseph as an "extraordinary figure, so close to our own human experience"
In the May-June edition of Northeast Ohio Catholic magazine, Bishop Malesic reflects on the life and loving attributes of St. Joseph.
In the Diocese of Cleveland, four existing parishes and one all-girls high school are named in honor of this beloved saint. There also are four religious orders with a dedication to him that serve in the diocese.

In addition to the Year of St. Joseph, the Holy Father has also declared this year, the Year of the Family.
