Youth and Young Adult Minister: St. Ladislas Church

BASIC FUNCTIONS: The Youth Minister providers guidance, support, empowerment, and education to individuals from 7th grade until age 30. Youth and young adult ministry is comprised of five main components, according to the National Federation for Catholic and Youth Ministry. These components include discipleship, connection, giftedness and growth, comprehensiveness and parish involvement. Specific responsibilities shown below.


REPORTS TO: Director of Faith Formation

RESPONSIBILITIES: • Be an advocate for youth and young adults and educate the parish about their hopes, concerns and needs. • Plan, develop, and implement all aspects of a balanced youth and young adult ministry in the areas of discipleship, connection, giftedness and growth, comprehensiveness and parish involvement. • Be aware of resources for developing the youth and young adult ministry programs and participate in continuing education events and training opportunities. • Recruit and train volunteers who work with the youth and young adult ministry and ensure adequate volunteer support and adult to youth ratios. • Coordinate and conduct Religious Education curriculum for youth (grades 7-12). • Coordinate yearly Vacation Bible School curriculum and event. • Coordinate and teach Confirmation and provide leadership for confirmands, sponsors, and parents beyond the classroom. • Keep records of youth participation and manage the youth and young adult ministry budget. • Communicate in a timely manner and as effectively as possible using all available resources (email, website, bulletin, newsletter, bulletin board, etc.). Coordinate with the Communications Manager for all outboard communications. • Make yourself available to youth in a variety of ways. • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive church matters and personal information of members. • Collaborate with other church staff members and volunteers to support various ministries and initiatives. • Attends monthly staff meetings and is responsible for planning and facilitating meeting when assigned. Strong commitment to the values, mission and ministry of St Ladislas Parish, the Roman Catholic Church, and the Diocese of Cleveland.

SKILLS: • Ability to apply and exercise good judgment and safety standards. • Possesses the ability to work well with limited supervision. • Must be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks at one time. • Demonstrated skill in reading comprehension, especially in understanding written technical directions and supervisory communications. • Excellent organizational and time management skills. • Proficiency in using office software, such as Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent. • Good communication and interpersonal abilities. • At least one year youth and young adult interaction experience required. • Previous work experience, preferably in a church or non-profit setting, may be preferred.

EDUCATION/TRAINING: • Bachelor’s Degree in Pastoral Ministry, Theology or related field is preferred. • Have a solid praxis in the Roman Catholic theological tradition. • Must pass appropriate background checks.
