Assumption Pilgrimage to the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation
Wednesday, August 14 from 9:00am - 11:00pm
The Catholic Conference of Ohio and its bishops, including Bishop Edward Malesic and Bishop Michael Woost, invite Catholics to join them in a pilgrimage to the Basilica and National Shrine of our Lady of Consolation in Carey, Ohio.
A full day of events will take place on Aug. 14 as follows:
- 7 a.m. - Mass (Original Shrine Church)
- 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. - Confessions (back lawn)
- 11 a.m. - Mass in English (Upper Basilica)
- 12:30 p.m. - Mass in Chaldean (Upper Basilica)
- 2 p.m. - Novena of the Assumption with Rosary Procession (Upper Basilica)
- 3:30 - 8 p.m. - Confessions (back lawn)
- 5 p.m. - Mass in Chaldean (Upper Basilica)
- 7 p.m. - Mass in English (Lower Basilica)
- 9 p.m. - Candlelight Rosary Procession from Basilica to Shrine Park and Vigil Mass of the Assumption in the Park (English) Bishop Daniel E. Thomas, Celebrant; Bishop Earl K. Fernandes, Homilist; Bishop Edward C. Malesic, Concelebrant; Bishop Michael G. Woost, Concelebrant
- 9:30 p.m. - Vigil Mass of the Assumption (Upper Basilica)
Carey is within 200 miles of most Ohio towns with thousands of people expected to attend the Vigil Mass, so plan to arrive early to allow for traffic and parking. Pilgrims can visit the breathtaking Upper Basilica, venerate multiple relics in the Lower Basilica, and go to confession.
The Mass is outdoors; please bring the following items:
- A rosary for the procession
- Blanket or folding lawn/camp chair
- Poncho or umbrella (if rain is forecasted)
