Stories of Life, Loss, and Mercy: A Catholic Conversation on Ending Ohio's Death Penalty
Wednesday, March 18 from 7:00pm - 8:30pm
On Tuesday, March 18 at 7:00pm at John Carroll University, join us for an evening of reflection, witness, and dialogue on the future of the death penalty in Ohio.
The conversation will be emceed by Stephan Rochefort of Catholic Mobilizing Network, who will provide context on the current status of capital punishment in our state and the growing movement toward its abolition. The heart of the evening will be personal testimony.
Attendees will hear powerful stories from Sr. Rita Mary Harwood and Elwood Jones, Ohio’s most recent death penalty exoneree. Time will be provided for audience Q&A and engagement. This event has been collaboratively organized by Catholic Mobilizing Network, the Office for Human Life, the Office for Young Adult Ministries, the Office of Chaplaincy Services, Catholic Charities Diocesan Social Action Office, John Carroll University, and Ursuline College.
All are welcome and strongly encouraged to attend as we consider how our faith calls us to uphold the dignity of every human life and to work toward ending the state practice of capital punishment in Ohio. The talk is free to attend, but we are asking that people do RSVP if all possible, to assist JCU with attendee number estimates. Please contact Tony Dipre (Office for Human Life) with any questions about the evening.
