It was the death of her husband Matt?s grandmother in May two years ago that led Lashawna Mackura?s decision to join the Catholic Church.
?I saw such a sense of hope at her funeral,? she said. ?Everyone was happy, and I thought their faith was how I would find happiness, too.? The following December, Mackura joined the RCIA program at St. Felicitas Parish in Euclid. ?There I found a place to call home, a place I never really had.?
Mackura was one of nearly 1,000 people from 101 parishes from throughout the eight county Cleveland Diocese who attended two celebrations of the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion of Candidates March 1 at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. They were joined by family, godparents and sponsors.
