Notice of Priest Placed on Administrative Leave

News of the Diocese

June 7, 2007

The Rev. Patrick Henry, a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland, has been placed on Administrative Leave as the result of a newly reported allegation of misconduct with a minor stemming from an alleged incident in the mid 1970’s.

Father Henry is the Pastor of St. Christine parish in Euclid. He has fully cooperated with the investigation and will remain on Administrative Leave and will not be permitted to engage in any form of priestly ministry or wear clerical attire.

Recently, a complaint was received from an individual alleging that prior to his ordination to the priesthood and outside of the Diocese of Cleveland, Father Henry engaged in sexual misconduct with a minor. In accordance with diocesan policy, the matter was reported to the appropriate civil authorities and to the Diocesan Review Board, the independent body created to examine such matters. The Review Board concluded that a preponderance of the evidence produced in the investigation concluded that the allegation is credible, resulting in the Administrative Leave action. The case has now been sent to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith at the Vatican for its review and determination.

The Diocese of Cleveland continues its commitment to protecting children and helping to heal victims of abuse. We are deeply sorry for the pain suffered by survivors of abuse due to action of some members of the clergy, as nothing is more important than protecting children.
