January 1 is a Holy Day of Obligation - Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God

New Year's Day (Thursday, January 1, 2009) is a holy day of obligation.  This holy day is the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God.  The Catholic faith community is required to attend mass on all holy days of obligation.
