For the past two academic years, schools in the Diocese of Cleveland have had an increased concentration in establishing STEM programs. STEM education focuses on improving instruction in science, technology, engineering and math.
During this time, schools and teachers have received STEM designations from the Ohio STEM Committee. St. Joseph Parish School in Amherst is the most recent diocesan school to earn the distinction.
At St. Joseph, the curriculum for grades K-8 incorporates the STEM model with a focus on student-driven collaboration and the use of problem-based learning, also known as PBL.
?A reason for incorporating STEM and going through the extensive application process for designation is due to the importance of offering a robust curriculum,? said Amy Makruski, St. Joseph Parish School principal. ?This type of education provides strong real-world connections for the students, develops a strong sense of
