Queen Esther was a devout Jew who found herself in a very dangerous situation in which her life, and the lives of her fellow Jews, were being threatened with extinction. What does she do? She prays from the heart: “Save us from the hand of our enemies; turn our mourning into gladness and our sorrows into wholeness.”
Lent should be a time of increased prayer for us. But our prayer must be more than just repeating words. It must come from the depths of our heart, like the prayer of Queen Esther.
We find ourselves in difficult times too. Surely we have much to cry out to the Lord about: think pandemic, racial injustice, a divided nation, families in distress, illness, etc. We must ask him with every fiber of our being: “Save us.”
(A)sk to receive.
(S)eek to find.
(K)nock to have the door opened to us.
This is the good advice of Jesus himself.
