I often reflect on the first words of Jesus to so many of his disciples, “Follow me.” That is the invitation Jesus made to the tax-collector Levi in today’s Gospel reading.
What did Levi do at this invitation from Jesus? “And leaving everything behind, he got up and followed him.”
Leaving everything behind must have been quite a change for Levi. It meant a complete separation from his past as a sinner.
Every day, when we arise from our sleep, we should hear Jesus say it to us too, “Follow me.”
Ask yourself, “And what is it that I need to give up in order to do that?”
