Tuesday of the Third Week of Lent – March 22, 2022

Jesus gives us another lesson on forgiveness. He knows that we are not healed until we have let go of our resentments and anger at those who have harmed us. Anger is like a cancer that can eat away at us until there is little left of us that can relate to God.

So, Jesus told us to forgive not seven times but 77 times. In other words, we must be ready to let go of our anger over and over again. This is exactly how God deals with us. He forgives us over and over again, too. Thank God for that!

To make the point vividly clear, Jesus told the parable of a man who was forgiven much by his master, but who forgave others very little. In the end, it didn’t go well for him.

So, let’s try to forgive those who have harmed us. And, if it is difficult - as it often is - then ask for the grace to forgive. And if we just aren’t able to do that at this time, because the wound is too deep and too raw, at least ask God to forgive in that person what we just can’t right now. But never give up. Forgiveness is the only way to healing. And God will not allow us to take any of our grudges with us into the kingdom of Heaven.
