Wednesday of the Fifth Week of Lent – April 6, 2022

The conflict between Jesus and his detractors continues in today’s Gospel. The Jews had been freed from Egyptian slavery long ago. They had also been freed from their time of exile in Babylon. They believed that they had been set free. But Jesus pointed out that anyone who sins is a slave to sin.

Jesus had come to set them and everyone free from slavery to sin. He is the son of the household who has the authority to free the slaves of the householder. He is the son who forgives sins in the name of the Father.

What sin keeps you tied to slavery? And will you accept the freedom offered by the forgiveness of the Father’s Son? Make sure, unlike those who opposed Jesus, that there is enough room for God’s healing word in you. If you have not been to sacramental confession in a long time, this is a good time to go and find how wonderful it is to be released from the bondage of sin.
