Judas was in a very bad way. He was actively plotting to hand Jesus over to his enemies, who wanted to kill him.
Jesus said of Judas, “It would be better for that man if he had never been born.”
But it didn’t need to end that way. If Judas had only asked forgiveness from the Lord, he would have received it.
Judas’ great mistake was to believe that his sin was greater that the love Jesus had for him. That is why he despaired and eventually killed himself. He could not accept the love of God.
