The Book of Wisdom recalls that the ancient Israelites were told when the Passover of the Angel of Death would happen. They were given time to prepare because they knew the day of the Lord’s arrival. At the predetermined time, they sacrificed the lamb, put the blood on the doorposts on their homes, ate the unleavened bread, and waited for the freedom that would be theirs in the morning.
But Jesus, in the Gospel today, reminds us that we are not often told the hour when the “thief” is coming for us. Death is often unexpected, unwelcome, and untimely. Therefore, we must always be prepared, “for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come,” Jesus tells us.
So, although we do not know the day nor the hour, we do know that the Lord comes for us, in fact we pray for it, “Thy kingdom come.” May we be ready for it when it does, even if it comes as a surprise.
The Lord gives us much to ponder today.
Have a blessed week everyone.
