Second Sunday of Lent — March 5, 2023

The divine nature of the person of Jesus was momentarily manifested to Peter, James and John who accompanied him up the mountain in today’s scripture. In the Transfiguration, the face of Jesus became like the sun and his clothes became white as light. He was giving his disciples a sneak peek into the power behind the resurrection.

It is at this point that God speaks to those present, saying “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”

These words are meant for us too. “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” Jesus, who is both human and divine, was sent to us by his Father to save us from our sins and lead us to eternal life. He did that by obediently doing the will of the Father, never denying his true identity and staying true to his mission. In the end, his obedience resulted in his death; but he was raised from the dead and his mission of salvation continues today. He is risen and among us. The Father is well pleased in him.

What must we do? We must listen to the beloved Son of the Father. But, if we want to listen to Jesus, we must first desire to hear him. We can listen carefully and hear the voice of Jesus speaking to us in many ways: through prayer, through scripture, through our sacraments, through the teaching of his Church, through the voice of his creation, through each other who have gift of the Holy Spirit.

May we hear Jesus, listen to Jesus, and follow Jesus. This is the way that leads to eternal life, and to the day that we too shall rise from the dead.

Have a blessed week everyone.
