It’s almost time for #weGiveCatholic 2023, the annual online day of Catholic giving. The 24-hour event will take place on Nov. 28, Giving Tuesday.
This year, there is a new addition: the Early Giving Phase. For the convenience of donors, gifts can be made in advance beginning at midnight Nov. 19. More than 230 Catholic organizations, including schools, parishes, Catholic Charities sites/programs, nonprofit organizations and ministries throughout the eight-county Diocese of Cleveland will benefit from the fundraising event. All participants are listed on the #weGiveCatholic website. Filters can be used to search for specific participating entities.
Bishop Edward Malesic once again encourages participation in #weGiveCatholic.
“Let’s come together on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 28, to raise awareness and inspire our Catholic community to generosity in support of Catholic parishes, Catholic schools, Catholic Charities sites/programs, and Catholic nonprofits in our region,” he said.
Anyone can donate. Since #weGiveCatholic is an online event, donors will need a credit card and access to the internet. Donors also are welcome to bring donations by cash or check to a participating organization’s site on Nov. 28 (or before). The gift will entered and included in the day’s leaderboard totals viewed online.
Donors can give by credit card – MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express – debit card, ACH, PayPal and Apple Pay. Donations will be accepted through the #weGiveCatholic website on Nov. 28. Recommended minimum donation is $10 and there is no maximum donation. All donations are tax deductible. Donors will receive an automatic tax receipt for each online gift by email from the Mightycause Charitable Foundation.
Donor-Advised Fund holders at the Catholic Community Foundation can recommend grants from their funds or make an offline donation by cash, check or stock directly to the organization(s) they choose.
Donors can give to as many participating organizations as they choose. To streamline the process, a donor will create a cart and then select the participating organization(s) they want to help. Each donation will be placed in the donor’s cart to streamline the checkout process. After checking out, they will receive one email receipt listing each gift they made. Each school, parish, Catholic Charities site or nonprofit they donate to will receive separate notification of their gift.
Participating entities are encouraged to make the event a fun day. There are opportunities for matching gifts and for cash prizes that will be awarded to participating organizations.
#weGiveCatholic is presented by the Catholic Community Foundation, which fosters faith-based stewardship in the community for the spiritual, educational and charitable needs of all.
