The opponents of Jesus sought to link his miracles to the work of demons. They said, “By the power of Beelzebul, the prince of demons, he drives out demons.”
Of course, we know different. His miracles were the work of God. They were signs of the Kingdom that Jesus was bringing to us.
Modern atheists still call Jesus either a fraud or delusional. They are not much different than the original opponents of Jesus who called him demonic.
But when we look at the miracles of Jesus – they tell the story of God wanting to break into our lives. He wants us to wake up and see his power and his love.
One of his great miracles was to unite us in faith. He gathered us together as a Church. Then he warned us to protect our unity – “For a house divided against itself cannot stand.”
At the end of this Gospel passage Jesus gives us something to think about: “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.”
Today try to remember that you and I are gathered together with many people who are united by our faith in Jesus Christ. And pray for the unity of His Church, so that we might gather together with him and not scatter against him.
Make Lent a time to become more attached to your parish family and gather others with you along the way.
