St. Patrick’s Day celebration begins with Mass before parade

St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Sunday this year, but festivities will begin with the traditional Masses.

Bishop Edward Malesic will be the celebrant at the 11 a.m. Mass at St. Colman Church, 2027 W. 65th St., Cleveland on St. Patrick’s Day. Members of the West Side Irish American Club will attend the liturgy, as well as the United Irish Society’s 2024 parade honorees, Patrick Murphy, grand marshal; Patricia Homan, Irish Mother of the Year; and parade co-chairs David McLaughlin and Father Francis Walsh.

The 2024 St. Patrick’s Day Parade, presented by the United Irish Societies of Greater Cleveland, will step off an hour later than usual, at 2:04 p.m., in front of the Bishop Cosgrove Center. Bishop Malesic will bless the parade. The national anthems of Ireland and the United States will be sung by Kathleen Cooper and Grand Marshal Murphy will blow the ceremonial whistle signifying the start of the parade.

The theme of the parade is “Ireland: One Island One Nation.”
