If we fail to remember what Jesus did for us, and the suffering he endured for us, we will never fully appreciate the depth of God’s love for us.
When Jesus died on the cross, we received an insight into God’s desire to do whatever it takes to draw us back to him. Knowing that he died at our hands serves to wake us up to the awful results of human hatred and our rejection of God. We look at Jesus on the cross and ask ourselves, “My God, what did we just do?” And we draw back to him – and not away from him. We ask for mercy and say, “Lord, I’m so sorry.” In the words of the great hymn: “Sometimes it causes me to tremble.”
