More than 200 people attended the Women’s Board of Catholic Charities, Summit County’s 36th annual luncheon and style show on March 27. The event, which took place at Our Lady of Cedars in Fairlawn, raises funds for the work done by Catholic Charities.
Debbie O’Donnell and Alice Barger chaired this year’s program, with support from many others. Emcee was Lori Limbacher.
Typically, the fundraiser generates $15,000 to $20,000 for Catholic Charities. Final numbers for this year’s event are being calculated.
Guests enjoyed lunch and were able to bid on dozens of gift baskets in a silent auction. Volunteer models showcased clothing from Chico’s of Hudson. Event attendees received an exclusive discount at Chico’s.
Anne MacWherter, women’s board president, highlighted the board’s work throughout the year, including:
- The sewing club making baby blankets for families in need through the “Bags of Love” program.
- Volunteering at Catholic Charities’ hot meals program.
- Volunteering at the Camp Christopher Fall Festival
- Fundraising efforts supporting Camp Christopher camperships and the Adult Day Services program.
Tess Flannery, director, Catholic Charities, Summit County, provided an overview of local services offered by the agency, which is part of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland. She also shared the powerful story of a client whose life was transformed with help from Catholic Charities.
The Women’s Board invites all adult women to join in its mission to assist those in need. Board members connect and collaborate with caring women from parishes across Summit County to support agency programs through volunteer service and fundraising efforts.
The board has three membership categories: active, associate and affiliate.
Active members participate in activities sponsored by the board, support fundraising projects of the board, have the right to hold office and vote. Annual dues are $15.
Associate members support the board’s work, but cannot vote or hold office in the organization. Annual dues are $20.
Affiliates have never been active members and cannot vote or hold office. Dues are $25 per year.

The group will have its installation luncheon on May 8 and its spring meeting on April 11. Dates for the fall and winter meetings will be announced later.
