The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity — June 15, 2025

When we were young, perhaps we thought of God as an old man with long white hair and a flowing beard.

It was easy for us to image God like this, not just as a father, but as a grandfather — kind, gentle, compassionate, and with twinkling eyes.

As we got older, we began to understand that God is much more than we can ever imagine.

God is all-powerful, all-knowing, all-loving, unchanging, always existing, the creator of all that is visible and invisible — and yet, humble enough to walk with us, care for us, and lift us up to Heaven.

God is mystery, after all. But God is a mystery who wants to be known, even if we cannot ever completely understand God. (God’s ways are not our ways and God’s thoughts are not our thoughts). Still, we can and should love God above all things and worship God and God alone.

Some people reject God because they have never let go of their childhood images of God. They reject a type of God who never really existed in the first place. They see God as a myth (an old man with a flowing white beard). But then they fail to go in search of God as he really is.

For those of us who have encountered the power and glory of God — and come to see him reflected in the face of Jesus — we stand in awe, we offer our lives to him, we fall down in adoration, we have a hope that will not disappoint. And we seek to love as we have been loved.

Look up at the stars and see the awesomeness of God who created us (God the Father).

Look at a crucifix and see the love of God who came for us and died for us (God the Son).

And look deep within you and allow the life of God to fill your soul (God the Holy Spirit).

God is much more than we can imagine — but still, we know that God is here, and God is love.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Have a blessed week everyone!
