The Office of Black Catholic Ministries seeks to carry out advocacy for the concerns and needs of Black Catholics.
After this I had a vision of a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation, race, people and tongue. (Revelation 7:9)
We strive to fulfill this mission by providing staff support to the Diocesan Race Relations Committee, Diocesan Gospel Choir, Diocesan African Catholic Community, and to our Catholic schools and institutions that serve the greater African American community, Catholic and non-Catholic alike. It communicates with various offices locally and nationally in support of issues relating to Black Catholic Ministries.
The ministry also aims to serve in an advisory capacity to the bishop’s staff of the diocese regarding matters of concern to African Americans. In addition, the Office of Black Catholic Ministries seeks to collaborate with the civic community on issues addressing the Black community.
The Diocese of Cleveland joins the Catholic Community and in a special way the Black Catholic Community in mourning the death of Bishop Fernand J Cheri, III, OFM Auxiliary Bishop of New Orleans and Vice President of The National Black Catholic Congress. Funeral Arrangements for Father Cheri are still pending.
