Ministerio Hispano / Hispanic Ministry

We value, appreciate and strengthen the gift and values of “Faith, Family and Fiesta” that Hispanics bring to the Body of Christ, a loving appreciation for God's gift of life, and an authentic and consistent devotion to Mary, the Mother of God. (The Hispanic Presence: Challenge and Commitment, #3)

The Office of Hispanic Ministry aims to integrate the common vision of the National Pastoral Plan for Hispanic Ministry throughout the eight counties of the Diocese. In the spirit of pastoral de conjunto, we collaborate with other diocesan offices and parishes to serve the Hispanic community by providing pastoral formation, and spiritual and human support. We also provide resources and support to apostolic movements and parish ministries, as well as serve as liaison with ecumenical and social organizations in Cleveland.

Under the leadership of the Secretary for Parish Life and Special Ministries, the Director of Hispanic Ministry will assist the Bishop and other diocesan pastoral agents in the pastoral care of Hispanic Catholics in the Diocese of Cleveland. The director will lead the day-to-day administration of the Office of Hispanic Ministry and oversee accompaniment of Hispanic communities especially in the areas of evangelization, faith formation, leadership development, ministry development, social concerns, and worship. Further, the director will promote the integration of Hispanic Catholics into the total life of the Church and be especially supportive toward the meaningful integration of those with limited English language skills.

On June 16, the U.S. Bishops approved a new National Pastoral Plan for Hispanic/Latino Ministry. The plan has been in the works since the four-year the Fifth National Encuentro of Hispanic/Latino Ministry (V Encuentro) process that culminated with a national gathering in Grapevine, Texas, in 2018. The document offers a renewed vision and mission for ministry among Latinos in the context of a culturally diverse Church.
