Diocesan Tuition Assistance

Need-based Tuition Assistance

The Diocese of Cleveland awarded over $3.6 million in Diocesan tuition assistance to deserving students during the 2024/25 school year. 

Learn more below about the tuition assistance opportunities available to families with demonstrated financial need through Diocesan Tuition Assistance, Angel Scholarships, and Fund A Dream Scholarships.

Diocesan Tuition Assistance (DTA)

Assistance available to students attending a participating school within the Diocese of Cleveland.  Funds are awarded based on financial need. 

  • Average high school award:  $900
  • Average elementary award:  $550
  • Deadlines:  March 15, 2025

Angel Scholarships

These scholarships are made possible through contributions to the Angel Scholarship Fund, a state tax-credit program that is being managed by the Catholic Community Foundation and the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland. 

  • Average award:  Varies by school
  • Deadline:  Set by each school

Fund A Dream Scholarships

Fund A Dream is an innovative scholarship program that offers a special opportunity for sponsors to "adopt a student" and be provided with updates about him or her during the school year.  All Catholic school students K-12 that have a remaining financial need of at least $2,500 are eligible to apply.  

  • Award amount:  $2,500
  • Deadline:  March 25, 2025

School Employee Tuition Assistance Fund

This fund is an additional tuition assistance opportunity for full-time Catholic school employees of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland whose children are enrolled in a K-12 Catholic school.  

  • Award amount:  Varies based upon the number of applications received
  • Deadline:  April 1, 2025

Special Scholarships

The following scholarships have specific eligibility requirements.  Email Cindy Williams, Catholic Education Endowment Trust Grant/Special Scholarship Coordinator, to request your Special Scholarship application or contact your Catholic school directly. 

Application deadline for all Special Scholarships:  March 15, 2025

Bishops’ Scholarship for Excellence

Ten $3,500 scholarships open to high school students and twenty $1,200 scholarships open to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.

  

Cathedral Latin Scholarship

One $1,000 scholarship to a high school student nominated by his or her principal in each of the DTA participating high schools within the Diocese of Cleveland. 

  

Geis Scholarship Program 

Scholarships up to $5,000, open to students who are refugees, immigrants, or children of first generation immigrants enrolled in Catholic High Schools in Cuyahoga County.

  

John L. Patton Memorial Scholarship

Offers one junior or senior student enrolled in a Diocesan owned high school (Holy Name, Lake Catholic, VASJ, Central Catholic, or Elyria Catholic) a full tuition scholarship for one academic year.  Applicants must have a parent or grandparent who is currently serving in or is a veteran of the U.S. Military.  This scholarship may be split between two or more students if full tuition amount is not needed.

  

M. Thomas Moore Elementary Scholarship

Four $500 scholarships each academic year to four elementary students in the Diocese of Cleveland.

   

The Martin T. Galvin Memorial Scholarship

Provides $1,000-$1,500 scholarship assistance to a student enrolled in a Catholic high school within the Diocese of Cleveland.  Applicants must have a family member who belongs to the Catholic Lawyers Guild or a parent who practices law in Northeast Ohio, are registered at a parish in the Diocese, and are participating members of their school and/or community.

Emergency Tuition Assistance

If your family experiences a financial crisis that may prevent payment of tuition for the current year, contact your parish pastor, school business manager, or school principal immediately.

If all local emergency assistance options are exhausted, your school can initiate the process of applying for an Emergency Tuition Assistance Grant.

  • Available November 1-May 1 during the school year.
