Position Title: Elementary Art Teacher Location: St Michael Catholic Elementary School Reports To: Principal: Jennifer Conti Position Summary The Elementary Art Teacher is responsible for delivering a comprehensive, faith-integrated visual arts program to students in grades K-8. This teacher fosters creativity, artistic skills, and an appreciation for beauty while supporting the mission and values of the Catholic Church. The Art Teacher helps students recognize art as a reflection of God’s creation and a means of self-expression.
Primary Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate art lessons aligned with diocesan standards Integrate Catholic values, traditions, and themes into the art curriculum when appropriate Teach a variety of artistic techniques, media, and art history concepts Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs Faith Integration Support the Catholic identity and mission of the school Incorporate elements of faith, culture, and liturgical seasons into projects (e.g., Advent, Lent, saints) Model Gospel values in interactions with students and staff Classroom Environment Maintain a safe, organized, and creative classroom environment Establish clear expectations for behavior and care of materials Promote respect, responsibility, and collaboration among students Student Assessment Evaluate and assess student progress in artistic skills and effort Provide constructive feedback and communicate progress with parents/guardians Maintain accurate records of student performance School Community Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff on interdisciplinary projects Assist with school events, liturgies, and displays of student artwork Organize and showcase student art through exhibits, bulletin boards, and art shows Professional Responsibilities Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities Maintain and manage art supplies and budget responsibly Uphold school policies and diocesan guidelines
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Art Education or related field Valid state teaching license (or ability to obtain) Practicing Catholic preferred; must support the mission of Catholic education Knowledge of child development and elementary instructional strategies Strong classroom management and organizational skills Ability to integrate faith and learning Preferred Skills & Attributes Creativity and enthusiasm for working with children Strong communication and collaboration skills Flexibility and willingness to contribute to the broader school community Experience in a Catholic school setting (preferred) Physical Requirements Ability to stand, move around the classroom, and assist students Ability to lift and organize art materials and supplies Mission Commitment The teacher is expected to support and model the mission of St. Michael School actively.
