Position Summary:
The Assistant Director supports the Summer Musical Director in the planning, coordination, and execution of the summer theatrical production. This role assists in providing leadership and organizational support to ensure an efficient, well-structured, and positive experience for all participants, including students, alumni, faculty, staff, and volunteers. The Assistant Director helps maintain a safe, respectful, and mission-aligned environment throughout all phases of the production.
Major Responsibilities:
- Assist in implementing the Director’s artistic vision, including staging, blocking, and character development
- Support the planning and facilitation of rehearsals, ensuring structure, pacing, and productivity
- Reinforce expectations for participation, including preparedness, punctuality, and professionalism
- Provide supervision and guidance to participants, supporting a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment
- Take detailed rehearsal notes and assist in tracking progress and implementing adjustments
- Support communication between the Director, cast, and production team to ensure clarity and consistency
- Assist with auditions, including organization, logistics, and evaluation support
- Collaborate with the production team to ensure alignment across performance and technical elements
- Assist with backstage coordination during rehearsals and performances
- Assume leadership responsibilities in the Director’s absence, as needed
- Support problem-solving and help address challenges in a timely and professional manner
- Assist with production logistics, including preparation, performances, and strike
Qualifications:
- Virtus trained (or willingness to complete prior to rehearsals)
- Experience in theater performance, technical theater, or directing; assistant directing experience preferred
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of participants
- Demonstrated leadership skills, particularly with high school-aged students
- Ability to support multiple aspects of a production simultaneously
- Commitment to the mission, teachings, and traditions of the Catholic Church and to Catholic education
- Ability to pass FBI/BCI background check
