Villa Angela – St. Joseph High School (VASJ) was founded in 1990 when Villa Angela Academy merged with St. Joseph High School, Villa Angela – St. Joseph High School is a diocesan-sponsored, co-educational, comprehensive, college preparatory high school rooted in the Ursuline and Marianist traditions. VASJ is committed to the spiritual, academic, and personal growth of each student. With a population of about 500 students in grades nine through twelve, Villa Angela – St. Joseph High School provides young men and women with a nurturing and supportive educational environment in which to grow academically, spiritually, socially, and morally.
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland was founded on April 23, 1847. Under the leadership of the Bishop of Cleveland, it is the twenty-third largest diocese in the United States. The Diocese encompasses the counties of Cuyahoga, Summit, Lorain, Lake, Geauga, Medina, Wayne and Ashland. There are approximately 700,000 Catholics in the Diocese, and Catholic Charities-Diocese of Cleveland is one of the largest diocesan systems of social services in the world. There are 185 parishes, 110 Catholic schools, 1 pastoral center and 1 mission office within the Diocese.
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Principal at Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School reports directly to the principal and is a key member of Administration. The Assistant Principal is responsible for ongoing examination and improvement of VASJ’s educational program and ensures that the school’s mission of educational excellence and innovation are fulfilled, all in furtherance of the Mission Statement of the School.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead in the development of a state-of-the-art curriculum based on best practice and current research on education.
- Serve as an active member of the school’s administration team, contributing to the vision of innovation and leadership in education.
- Collaborate with the principal, dean of students, and department heads to ensure program alignment with VASJ’s mission related to academic excellence.
- Oversee the professional development for faculty and to assist in faculty evaluations.
- Oversee the Special Education Department.
- Coordinate professional development programs that aligns with faculty and curriculum/instruction needs.
- Facilitate specific initiatives in the areas of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), Humanities, our current academic programming and other areas which can be integrated using innovative approaches to teaching.
- Ensure that all aspects of the VASJ curriculum incorporate multicultural and cross-cultural skill building strategies.
- Participate in meetings with Technology support.
- Work with the Principal to oversee the implementation of program recommendations from re-accreditation reports and academic excellence committee.
- Participate in teacher evaluations as directed by the Principal.
- Edit, in partnership with academic departments, the published curriculum guides and program overviews.
- Plan and lead, regular Curriculum Committee meetings, providing faculty opportunities for reflection, sharing of best practices, and recommendations for changes. (Changes must be approved by the Principal.
- Co-Chair, with the Principal, meetings with Department Heads that will focus on curriculum and instruction as well as learning.
- In conjunction with the Principal, design a course schedule that enhances best practices in the classroom.
- Attend individual departments meetings as regularly as possible.
- Attend weekly Administration meeting as scheduled by the President or Principal.
- Attend monthly faculty meeting as scheduled by the Principal.
- Serves as principal in principal’s absence.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
- Minimum of five years of experience in education, with demonstrated leadership in student activities, campus life, or school culture.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
- Experience in coordinating student life programs, including clubs, events, retreats, service initiatives, and leadership development.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
- Commitment to the values and mission of Catholic education and a willingness to support and promote the school’s Catholic identity.
- Commitment to Catholic values and the mission of Catholic education.
- The position requires VIRTUS certification and FBI/BCI background check.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General supervision is received from the Principal and the President of
Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Faculty as directed by the Principal.
