Divine Word

Divine Word Catholic Church Buildings & Grounds Caretaker (Full-Time) Position Description Purpose: The buildings caretaker supports the ministry of the church by regularly maintaining, cleaning and overseeing the parish buildings, property, and equipment.

Reports to: Business Manager

Duties: • Ongoing general building maintenance repairs and services • Prepare church/rooms for Parish meetings and events • Keep restrooms clean and supplies filled • Keep kitchen cleaned (cupboards, sinks, counters) • Sweeps, mops, polishes, refinishes floors, vacuums and shampoos carpeted areas • Clean light fixtures and change bulbs • Power wash and seal the Rectory deck as needed • Remove trash and recyclables in all buildings on a weekly basis or as needed • Keep all facilities clean, attractive, and well-maintained to be presentable at all times of use • Minor repairs to windows, doors, switches, desks, appliances, toilets, etc. • Clean and maintain water level of baptismal font • Determines needed supplies and equipment and advises Business Manager if major purchases are required • Follow-up on calls relevant to security systems • Carry cell phone to be on call for maintenance services • Purchase custodial supplies (use tax-exempt certificate) and maintain inventory • Remove snow and debris from sidewalks if needed between landscape/plow visits • Maintain kitchen equipment • Follow instructions regarding use of chemicals and supplies • Monitor all emergency exits and lights to ensure they are free of clutter and in working order • Report all accidents and injuries • Assist church members with special events, i.e., loading/unloading vehicles • Report equipment failures or major repair needs • Change sign on Route 306 • Review calendar each Monday to ensure meeting rooms and facilities are arranged properly for use prior to the start of the event; work with ministry heads and staff to receive direction on special room sets • Clean parking lot drains in spring and fall • Meet monthly with Business Manager and Pastor • Painting, as necessary, in the church, offices and rectory • Other duties as assigned Environmental Conditions: • Work with what can be dangerous and toxic cleaning products; exercise proper precautions in handling such products

Job Qualifications: • Excellent interpersonal skills / servant attitude • Team player • Proactive, hardworking self-starter • Flexibility to accommodate the schedule of church activities • Conscientious and able to work independently • Attention to detail • In good physical health and able to lift up to 75 pounds • Effective time-management skills • Understanding of operation of tools and power equipment, and custodial equipment, i.e., ladders, floor buffers, carpet cleaners, etc.) • 1-2 years of building maintenance experience preferred

Expectations and Requirements: • Establish set hours and be on duty during those hours (occasional evenings and weekends if agreed to) • Ability to work as part of a team and interact professionally with vendors, staff, volunteers, and parishioners • Professional conduct, appearance, and communications • Be honest, trustworthy, and respectful of others • Be comfortable working in a religious setting; being respectful of the beliefs of others Remuneration • This is a full-time position which includes health benefits and is paid at an hourly rate

Range

$18.00/hour — $20.00/hour
